Millennium Bridge, Gateshead
Architectural/engineering model of the millennium bridge, GATESHEAD, Scale 1:250
Approx. dimensions 60cm x 52cm x 25cm
This was the final model I made concluding my second year at The Northern School of Art.
The design is a synthesis of details from the real-world Millennium Bridge that was built in Gateshead mixed with specifications that were given to me by the original architects Wilkinson Eyer. Since those original designs were created by the architects, changes were made to the design plans that eventually became the final real bridge and so I worked between the lines to fabricate this model, taking creative liberties to create an aesthetically cohesive model.
The model tilts to the same degree as the real bridge, matching its key identifying feature. The tilting allows boats to pass safely underneath through the boat guides in the water. The 18 suspension cables connect the dual decks to the elegant support arch
I would like to thank 4D Modelshop for their stunning brass etch components and Catherine Moyes at Wilkinson Eyer for her help in this project.
